Salesman accused of taking pitch too far in Louisiana

A 20-year-old salesman was criminally charged last month after a Marrero resident said the man pushed his way into her home in effort to try to sell her a burglar alarm system.

The man was charged with unauthorized entry of an inhabited dwelling and peddling with no permit, The Times-Picayune reported.

According to the resident’s account of the incident, the man knocked at her door and after the resident cracked the door open, the man allegedly came inside and placed his hands on the woman’s shoulders.

At that point, the resident claims that the man pushed her backwards and began asking about her home security system. The resident said she showed the man her alarm system, but then asked him to leave after he began pressing buttons.

The resident claims that the man would not leave until another person approached him from another room.

After the man left, the resident called the police, who located the man and two others in a vehicle nearby.

The man and his companions, who were wearing uniforms, gave police their paperwork and badges, indicating that they worked for a legitimate security alarm company.

So was this a case of criminal behavior? Or was it just a pushy salesman who was acting out of line but not against the law?

That will likely be up to a jury to decide, and the man will need an experienced criminal defense lawyer on his side who can make sure that his version of the story is heard.

A guilty verdict could cost the man his job, and his freedom.
