Police say Scott driver registered 0.18 blood alcohol content

In Louisiana, it should be understood by everyone that simply being accused of a crime does not make you guilty of that crime. That should be obvious on its face; people are innocent until proven guilty and are entitled to a trial by a jury of their peers. But when the story of a person's arrest is published in the local media, it can be hard for people to remember that the details of the case are what police and prosecutors are alleging -- these allegations have not been proven yet.

Consider the case of a man from the Lafayette who was arrested recently on suspicion of drunk driving. According to reports, the man was sleeping in his car near a city park when he was approached by someone. The person woke up the man in the car and offered to get him assistance. Instead, however, police say the man decided to drive away instead.

At that point, the police got involved. They located the man and performed field sobriety tests as well as breath tests. When the results raised their suspicions, officers arrested the man; he was ultimately charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Police reported that his blood alcohol content was 0.189, which would be more than twice the legal limit for driving.

As we have said, though, the mere reporting of the circumstances of this man's arrest do not indicate that he is guilty. People in this situation can work with an experienced drunk driving defense attorney for assistance.
